Weekend on Waiheke

We hopped on the 6.30pm ferry after work on Friday and arrived in to Waiheke just after 7pm. Sarah and Mike had booked a bach near the little town of Oneroa, so we spent the weekend there along with their friends Bill and Shelly from Canada.

On Saturday morning, we visited the Ostend market....fully of crafts, art, local produce and quite a lot of junk!

We visited the Wild on Waiheke vineyard/brewery, where we did lots of tastings and played some chess...

In the evening, we walked up to the Cable Bay vineyard, where an artist was displaying fantastic moving sculptures all powered by the wind!

On Sunday morning, we headed to the east of the island to explore Stoney Batter and the wilderness of this landscape.

We ate lunch at Onetangi beach, with its beautiful white sands....

...and the afternoon at the Winery Tour Concert listening to Anika Moa, Goldenhorse and Brooke Fraser (all Kiwi bands) in the sunshine eating yummy picnic food!

What a perfect weekend and only 30 minutes from Auckland!
