Sulphur City

Here in New Zealand we actually get a bank holiday for the Queen's birthday - long live the Queen!! We decided to make the most of the long weekend and headed south east towards the geo-thermal tourist capital of Rotorua. En-route we stopped at the Karangahake Gorge, where we stretched our legs with a walk along the river and through a 1km long disused railway tunnel.

We also made a detour to Tauranga and Mount Maunganui at the Bay of Plenty - a popular summer holiday destination!

We spent two days walking in and around Rotorua, visiting lakes, thermal mud pools and steaming cliffs.
