We left a very autumnal Auckland and arrived into 30 degree heat in Noumea. An island paradise was awaiting for us:
We were met with big smiles and fresh homemade frangipani lays at the airport - what a start to the holiday!
It really did feel like a holiday for us as we spent most of the time relaxing in Fernand and Chantal's amazing garden, complete with pool. Malena was learning to swim and her confidence grew over the time we were there.
The lush garden is home to Fernand's fare where he does his mosaic work and holds classes.
Malena even had a go at creating her own piece of artwork:
The garden was also the setting for most of our amazing multiple-course meals. First job was for Gareth and Aloys to build the new BBQ, while the women looked on:
We really we treated every lunchtime and evening to fantastic meals.
Breakfast on the veranda of bread, croissant of bowls of coffee!
Our fantastic hosts:
We did make a couple of trips out...one to a 'French' supermarket.
...one to the markets:
...and onto the beach to make some sandcastles:
On Easter Monday, we were invited over to Nicole and Jean-Peiere's for an afternoon of paella, swimming and patchwork.
All too soon, our time in New Caledonia came to an end. Before we took our flight, Fernand gave us shell necklaces and we said a sad goodbye.
