Trip to Tiritiri

Nearly 4 years since we went to Tiritiri Matangi, we thought it was about time for a revisit to the bird sanctuary island on the Hauraki Gulf. We boarded the boat in thick cloud:

The first part of our guided walk took us along the shore line before we headed into the bush.

We counted 15 different types of birds, including oyster catchers, saddlebacks, fantails, pukeko, takahe, bellbirds to name just a few. The hot sunshine came out as we reached the lighthouse at the top of the island and our picnic spot.

Greg, the 'alfa male' takahe on the island paid us a visit.

A tired boy ready for a dip in the sea to cool off.
