Kauri run and the Coromandel

We spent last weekend in the Coromandel peninsula. Gareth was taking part in the Kauri Run, a 13km off road team run. The remainder of his team comprised his boss (Chris), boss' partner (Rachel) and another colleague from the council (Carl).

The run started at the remote Waikawau Beach, a beautiful golden sand beach. After 2kms along the beach, the run then heads along a trail up to a 350m viewpoint across the peninsula, before heading down to finish back at sea level.

After the run, we headed back to Waikawau beach and took up our favourite campsite spot right next to the beach.

Perfect camping spot

We managed to fit in some body boarding on Saturday, and a beach walk on the overcast Sunday.
