We started the walk with a coffee from Mairangi Bay
We strolled along pipelines, rocks and beaches, with Rangitoto island a constant guardian on our left.
The cliffs on our right clearly showed the buckling and bending of the land. They must be a geologist's dream!
The walk requires a small detour to avoid the waist deep channel connecting the coast to Milford Marina. The detour takes you along the road past Commodore Parry Road. A grandly named road for a (presumably) grand character.
As you progress along the coastline, the "footpath" becomes somewhat less pronounced. Well, actually, it simply disappears, turning the walk into more of an adventure, as you clamber along precariously slippy ledges.
Still, with our hiking boots on we clambered along making the most of what feels like the first day of spring.
Part way along, Gareth managed to increase the level of adventure by attempting an Indiana Jones style rope swing off a ledge. Instead of gracefully swinging in a pendulum like arc across the water, he swung merely a few centimetres, and landed fairly and squarely in the sea. And got wet.
We arrived into Devonport 4 hours later, exhilarated, tired and thirsty. So, we indulged in a celebratory hot chocolate and a moccachino, before bussing ourselves back home for a quiet Sunday night in.
