Although we had no accidents on the slopes, Yvonne managed to fall on her ankle back at the chalet and is now on crutches for a few days. We therefore spent Saturday evening 'in' enjoying a few drinks and pizza.
Unfortunately, we woke this morning to the news that the mountain was closed due to high winds and low visibility. We decided to explore the town of Ohakune and couldn't leave without the obligatory photo in front of the carrot! As a result of the nutrient-rich volcanic soils, Ohakune has a thriving carrot-growing economy!!
Each little New Zealand town appears to have something they are famous for. On our drive back to Auckland, we drove through Te Kuiti, which claims to be the 'shearing capital of the world'....and of course they have a monument to mark this!
