The morning after the night before sees us both wake up with ringing ears, aching legs and adrenaline pumping through our veins after watching U2 at their last concert of the Vertigo 2006 tour. It was an amazing show, with the band belting out hit after hit to 44,000 Aucklanders, although there was a sizeable Irish contingent judging by the flags being waved aloft.
For those with a u2 interest, the band opened with City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo and Beautiful Day, and included hits spanning their 20 + years, such as Pride (In the name of Love), Mysterious Ways, Where the Streets Have no Name, One, Desire, I Still Haven't Found what I'm Looking For. Their final encore ended on a high, with a touching performance of One Tree Hill, a song named after the hill at the end of our road, and written during U2's last visit to Auckland (in dedication to a roadie tragically killed during the previous visit). The stage lit up magically throughout the show, displaying images of the band, support for the Make Poverty History campaign, and the New Zealand flag.
We managed to snap a few photos from Gareth's mobile phone, which are of variable quality, but here they are nevertheless:
